After an incident of sexual assault or violence, you have many options when it comes to seeking help, filing a reportaccessing resources. Whatever you decide, remember it is your choice how 和 when to proceed.

Secure Your Safety

If you have been assaulted, find a safe environment away from your assailant. This could be an on-campus location such as Safety 和 Security, Health Services or Counseling Services, or with a trusted friend or loved one.

Once you are in a safe environment, call RAINN's sexual assault hotline at (800) 656-4673 to request a hospital referral 和 check the availability of an emergency advocate. You may also consider contacting the police or University officials to make a report or statement. RAINN suggests writing your account of the event, a description of the assailant 和 as many details as possible.

Seek Medical Attention

You are encouraged to seek medical attention to treat injuries 和 discuss needs related to sexually transmitted infections 和 pregnancy. Medical professionals are trained to support you by providing medical care, resources 和 referrals. Seeking medical attention does not mean you have to make an official report of the incident.

While it's best to seek medical attention within 24 hours after an assault, you can do this at any time. You will be asked if you want to work with a sexual assault nurse examiner or sexual assault forensic examiner to receive care, document details of the assault 和 collect evidence. Evidence is best preserved if you avoid changing clothes, 洗澡, using the bathroom, brushing teeth 和 eating/drinking.
